Bio

Deep East Texas' own poet and picker Chris Edwards is just aiming to write the best songs he can muster, and his love of playing music for people comes across in his energetic, amiable and often humorous stage presence. In the words of fellow singer/songwriter and music journalist, Mike Ethan Messick: "In Chris Edwards’ corner of the Texas singer/songwriter world, subtlety trumps bravado, a twangy near-whisper suits the job better than a rebel yell, and above all the lyric is king. Taking cues from the subdued but sublime likes of Townes Van Zandt, Sam Baker, and the quieter works of Ryan Adams, Chris Edwards weaves finger-picked guitars in with sparse piano and drums to frame a voice that sounds best when it takes its time. Not one to waste words, Edwards’ eye for detail and grasp of full-grown emotion puts him around a decade ahead of the curve as a young songwriter."

His soon-to-be-finished third studio LP The Drifter's Prayer is sure to expose many more ears to Edwards' rootsy tunes and his just-released live album Live at the Pine Knot presents Edwards and lead guitarist Sean Quigley live, warts-n-all, in one of Edwards' favorite venues, the Pine Knot Music Co-Op in Nacogdoches.
